Report from Student 8,Hawaii, 2025

valuable experience and learning that can only be obtained from field studies in economics

I had few close friends among those who were taking the case study A class, and I was worried about many things because I was not fluent in English abroad for the first time in a while. However, I am truly glad that I went there after returning home. There were a lot of learning that I couldn’t experience just by traveling.
First of all, it was my first time staying at an overseas university, and I was very excited the moment I set foot on that vast green surrounded site. Classes were interested in many things, such as economic topics and topics I looked up in case studies, and every class was interesting. English classes are also designed for presentations, so I was able to make use of them for the presentation on the last day. The local teachers were friendly and kind. I was able to talk to people who had been studying at the University of Hawaii for a year from Meiji Gakuin University, and I was able to hear valuable experiences.
There were a lot of activities. What impressed me in particular was the fact that I learned about the history of Japanese people at the Japanese Cultural Center and that I took an educational program in Hanauma Bay. The education program allowed us to approach environmental issues more deeply. After that, I experienced snorkeling.
This time, I had two free days without plans all day. In addition, classes are usually held until around 16:30, but there are days when classes end after noon, and I was able to go
sightseeing a lot. We went to the summit of Diamond Head, the Alamoana Center, the wall paintings of monsters, the Waikiki Beach to watch fireworks every Friday, and even Ranikai Beach, also known as the “Sea of Heaven.” “Also, I could enjoy the gourmet dishes such as Locomoco, Poki, Pancake, Marugame Noodles, Burger, Marasada, Steak, Garlic Shrimp and Acai.” Acai is quite different from restaurant to restaurant, so I recommend comparing the food. I went around four stores. On the last day, I went to dinner with the teachers who
stayed there. The Italian food there was also very delicious.
This time, it was refreshing and interesting that I was able to interact with people from Kansai through the same program as people from Konan University.
If there are people who are hesitating because they can’t speak English, you should definitely go there for that reason. Even if it’s not perfect English in the city, you can understand it with gestures. I had many valuable opportunities to talk to foreigners on this trip.
Everything was fresh and valuable. Thank you very much to the teachers, Mrs.Omura, and all the members who took care of us there.
