Report from Student 5,Hawaii, 2025

In the two-week field study in Hawaii, I was able to learn many things through lectures and fieldwork. When I arrived at the Manoa campus, I felt determined and excited to learn as much as possible during the two weeks.

I stayed at Lincoln Hall, which is located near the large campus, and it was a comfortable place to stay. It was also close to the classrooms where we had our lectures, so it was very convenient. In the lectures, I learned about the history, culture, and environmental issues of Hawaii. In particular, I was able to deepen my understanding of the challenges that Hawaii is facing, such as sea level rise caused by global warming, marine pollution, and energy issues. I also learned about the efforts being made in Hawaii to protect the environment.During the fieldwork, we visited places such as Waikiki Beach and Hanauma Bay, where I was able to connect what we learned in the lectures with real places. At Hanauma Bay, I experienced the richness of the ocean’s nature through snorkeling and realized the importance of efforts to protect the environment. In addition, we had the opportunity to give a presentation in English about the topic we researched. Although it was difficult to explain our research in English, it was a very valuable experience.

In this program, I attended lectures and lived together with students from Konan University, which gave us many opportunities to interact with each other. Although the schedule was tight, we were able to go shopping and walk around the city after lectures, which allowed us to experience the lifestyle and culture of Hawaii. It was a very fulfilling two weeks.
