Finding Leadership in Literature
In this seminar, we examine the concept of Leadership through both non-fiction and fiction. What characteristics make or break a Leader? Can we predict whether a person will be a successful leader or not based on those characteristics?
In the spring semester, students read non-fiction texts in English to prepare for class. During class, students are expected to participate actively and enthusiastically. As students are expected to write short summary and response papers, there is also instruction in academic writing.
In the fall semester, students read texts of fiction. Class discussion focusses on the character of the protagonist, and how that character influences the choices made. Students will also write short response papers.
With a better understanding of the concept of Leadership, it is hoped that students will be better equipped to choose good mentors and become good leaders themselves.
